I’ve learned that life is damned if you do, damned if you don’t. There’s no way around it. I’ve tried. I’ve failed each time. With that said, I say “Do”!
I’m ready to leave New York. I’m also not ready to leave New York. Because there is nowhere like New York. The energy, the people, the nightlife, restaurants, convenience and the shenanigans. It never ends. I love it all.
I do know there will come a time to leave and that time is closing in. Will I miss it? Everyday for the rest of my life. There’s no way around it.
You’re whole life you’ll be looking for that “someone”. That connection. Your partner in crime. The one. The person that makes life worth living. You’ll go everywhere together. Do everything together. Laugh. Travel. Build a life and a home.
Then there will come days that you’ll wonder why in the hell did I do this? Hop that plane and go across the world? Nope. Can’t. You’re in a relationship. Wanna buy that car? Did you discuss it first? Every thing you ever wanted to do will have to be run by your partner.
Tired of working for the man with a bunch of pathetic losers? You think, I’m going to start my own business.
Then you start that business. Freedom gone. Long days, licenses, phone calls, now that lazy pathetic coworker becomes your lazy pathetic employee, insurance and on and on.
You wanted to do it right? Then do it. Worth it? Maybe yes, maybe no. Don’t know if you don’t do it.
You learn from doing. Then damn it, do it. As long as its not going to kill you. Then why not?
I wanted to invest in stocks. Many people gave me advice. None of which was helpful. You know how I learned? Set up an account, bought some stock, lost a lot of money, lost a lot of sleep, ate what was left of my fingernails and almost lost my mind. I learned and it was fun and quite a rollercoaster of an experience.
There really is no balance to life. The only thing to do is live and experience it all. Regrets? Oh you’ll have em. We all do. Because we never know. We think we do. Yet we haven’t a clue. Far from it.
“What we have to learn to do, we learn by doing”. – Aristotle
A dear friend of mine with what everyone thought had the coolest job ever, traveled the world, made friends with celebrities and flew on private jets. I thought this girl had life by the balls. I asked her one day with her busy schedule how she balances life.
Throwing a pot into the sink and immediately huffing out, “Fuck bro, you can’t!!” –Chef Vikki Krinsky
I love real people. Best and most honest answer. This is why I love the hell out this woman and we’ve become such great friends.
What I love more is that she never stops. As frustrating as it is to have a life, start a business, create and build. She’s does it. She’s learning and growing by doing it. Not talking about it, not thinking about it, not complaining and not wondering how to start. She starts.
You have to do at some point in your life. You have to take that first step. Learn to wipe your own ass. Feed yourself. Fall off your bike. Your first date. Getting your drivers license. Your first job. Moving away from home.
When you were a kid you wanted so bad to try everything and be independent. Keep being that kid.
Damned if you do, damned if you don’t. Damn it, do it!
